Teachers
are often referred to as a hero without merit, see its role in the learning
process very dominant, in the hands of teachers that the smooth and successful
learning process at stake. But the reality is still not in favor of this
country. State the said education is an obligation for every citizen. However,
it is not supported with a maximum role of a teacher. There are still many
teachers who are not professional at this time is one of the proofs. Is this a
mistake curriculum? apart from that, should a teacher must be able to adapt
well, not scapegoat the existing curriculum for reasons not yet ready with the
new curriculum.
Teachers are those who teach science both in
class and outside of class. The term should not be attached to a teacher only
when teaching in the classroom or school. But a teacher must demonstrate and
implement its role outside the classroom or school as well. Teachers referred
to as the most important element in learning. Therefore, the responsibility of
being a teacher is very large, because they are the hands of the leaders and
the nation's future is at stake.
The
term profession is an occupation that is owned by someone. While professionals
are those who have a profession that requires skill and ability to run. With
this so professional teacher is a teacher who has a soul high devotion to
teaching with a variety of skills and capabilities supported in their role.
For the sake of improving the quality of
teachers, the need for the role and serious steps to be taken by the government
to the problems of education is primarily about not professional teachers can
be minimized and even eliminated. Do not let this teacher problems drag on with
no solution. As we know now there are many teachers who have not been professional.
For example in everyday life often found that teachers who close the dean of
students, will provide great value to the student, because of the proximity
factor. When viewed now the government has attempted to improve the
professionalism of teachers with several programs one of which is:

Professional education teacher (PPG)
Professional education teacher education
program is organized by the government which aims to prepare graduates s1 and D
IV non-teachers who have an interest in becoming a teacher in order to master
the competencies and gain national educator certificate. However, these
programs create new problems, because these programs provide equal
opportunities to graduates of educational and non-educational s1 to become a
teacher. Of course, this is a form of discrimination to the faculty of
education itself. If education teaching profession is referred to as a solution
to improve the professionalism of teachers, it is certain that this solution is
not an effective solution. Because these programs are not directly degrading
the faculty of education in producing professional teachers in Indonesia.
Oemar
Hamalik in his book Teaching and Learning (2001; 118) professional teacher
should have the requirements, which include;

Have a talent as a teacher
b)
Have expertise as a teacher
c)
Have a good expertise and integrated
d)
Have a healthy mental
e)
Healthy
f)
Has extensive experience and knowledge
g)
The teacher is the human spirit of Pancasila
h)
the teacher is a good citizen.
From
the explanation above it can be concluded that in this country there are many
teachers who have not been professional. Teacher professional education
programs that have been taken by the government are still less effective
because it creates new problems in its implementation. Therefore to become
professional teachers must meet eight requirements such as: Has the talent as a
teacher, have the expertise as teachers, have good expertise and integrated,
mentally healthy, able-bodied, has extensive experience and knowledge, teachers
are human spirit of Pancasila, and the teacher is a good citizen. when someone
has had eight of these conditions then it can be said that he is a professional
teacher.
